WW1 lego: The Anzacs of Gallipoli

We watched and discusses this cool lego re-enactment of the Anzacs at Gallipoli.

Then we had to work in groups and watch it again. We had 6 groups using 6 different devices inside and outside the class. We were really engaged and loving it.

As a group we had to find the key words/vocab and talk about what they meant. Plus write a time line about what happened.

Click on any of the photos to make them bigger and easier to read.

Mrs Wilson was amazed about how much we have learnt already in only 2 weeks of learning about WW1. We knew lots of key words and every student could explain one of the words on their groups page.

Amber's star student teaching

Amber had a cool activity for us to make and eat.

We had to choose a piece of coloured card. Then use the template to draw a bat or butterfly. Then we had to cut it out and decorate it. Then we got to stick the lolly pop on, ready for eating after school.

We loved making these. Thanks Amber.

Reading Comprehension Boxes

In term 1 we started using the reading comprehension boxes. There are texts at different levels that students read and then answer 8-12 questions about. Students mark their own work. Students can move up the levels depending on how well they did with the questions.

Amelia and Lilah made a video about how much they loved them.

Xavier's Star Student Teaching

Xavier taught us how to make these awesome marshmallow guns. They were quick and easy to make. We were very lucky that Xavier had 10 mini marshmallows for each of us to fire. They also worked well with little pieces of paper.

Electives - photography

This year Kereru Syndicate have started something new called electives. The idea is that on Friday afternoons students work in groups with a mix of other Year 5-6 Kereru students.

The activities are:
Mr Kyne-sports
Miss Evans-Garage Band
Mrs Wilson-photography
Mrs Gordon-art with nature
Mrs Maass-science
Mrs Hughes-BP technology challenges
Mrs Goodin-2D and 3D art

This term all students have gone to all activities for about 30 minutes. This has been a taster or preview of the activities. Students then make their elective or choice requests for next term.

With Mrs Wilson students had to work with a partner and use the ipads to take photos of 10 different things. We learnt about filling the frame or filling up the whole photo with what we were taking it of, making sure it was in focus and having a good background. We also learnt how to edit on the ipads, especially cropping.

We had to take photos of something:
-something multi coloured
-something bumpy
-something wet
-something our group made
-a triangle
-a number
-the letter e
-an action show
-repeated shapes
-a selfie with our partner

Here are some examples of our photos.
